I thoroughly enjoyed researching and writing this essay for Bibliotheca Dantesca (December 2020) on Dante’s “vexed political life” and how, “while not something to have wished for,” it “provided the conditions, motivation, and source material needed to create a literary masterpiece for the ages.”
